strippedGreetings! One tutorial for Challenge 114 coming up. While I kept careful notes that make it sound like I knew where I was going with this from the first moment, let me say that my best icon technique is "try things until something works" and that's definitely where I went with this one.
This icon was created using Photoshop CS5, along with some outside textures (I'll label them as I go). ( The details are behind the cut... )
If I am not clear enough on any step, or you would like clarification for any reason, please ask. It is quite possible that I may have missed mentioned something!

Meanwhile, any comments about this challenge? For myself, I found it a lot harder to icon than I'd expected, since it is a rather fabulous picture. If you participated, what did you enjoy, and what did you find difficult? Other thoughts?

Challenge 114, and Welcome Back!

Probably the hardest thing about running an icon challenge is finding suitable images for the challenges. I'm going to be asking you guys for some help with that, when I figure out what it is I want to ask for - also, I'm thinking it could be interesting to do a post-challenge comments post to find out what you liked/didn't like/found difficult about each one.
Meanwhile, here's Challenge #114:

There'll be a bit of a change to the voting, in that I shall post the voting eight days from today, and the results will go up the following weekend—you will have until Thursday to vote, then we can perhaps have a conversation about the challenge before the winners are announced. Let's see how that goes.
For the moment, I will post a fresh challenge next Saturday, but if weekly challenges are too much I will cut back to fortnightly. Have fun!

pensnestHi all, and thank you for voting for this icon. It was made in Photoshop CS5 on a Mac, and uses Gradient Map, Levels and Colour Fill, so all quite translatable, I'm sure.
