Voting for Challenge #115 ends tomorrow morning, so if you haven't cast your votes already, now's the time.

Meanwhile, Challenge #116 awaits your entries (due before I get up this Sunday). When I started working on this one I cursed myself for setting such a difficult task, and then I made half a dozen icons and had to stop before it became impossible to choose which ones to enter. So I know it can be done!

Four entries so far.

Greetings! One tutorial for Challenge 114 coming up. While I kept careful notes that make it sound like I knew where I was going with this from the first moment, let me say that my best icon technique is "try things until something works" and that's definitely where I went with this one.

This icon was created using Photoshop CS5, along with some outside textures (I'll label them as I go). The details are behind the cut... )

If I am not clear enough on any step, or you would like clarification for any reason, please ask. It is quite possible that I may have missed mentioned something!

A slightly different kind of challenge again this time.

Meanwhile you still have until midnight-your-time to enter Challenge #115.

Challenge #115 is still awaiting your entries. Challenge will be open until I get to my computer on Sunday morning.

So far, just two entrants.

As this challenge requires the participants to do a bit more work than usual, ie finding your own images, I'm going to keep it open for another week.

There are three possible source pics at the original Challenge #115 post, but feel free to find more bicycles wherever you can! I look forward to seeing your entries.

Challenge #115 is a bit lacking in entries at the moment, so I think it will stay open for another week, to give you all time to find some bicycle images and get your imaginations in gear.

Right, voting is now closed, and I'll be putting the results up later on today.

Meanwhile, any comments about this challenge? For myself, I found it a lot harder to icon than I'd expected, since it is a rather fabulous picture. If you participated, what did you enjoy, and what did you find difficult? Other thoughts?

A quick reminder that the voting on Challenge #114 closes tomorrow morning when I get to my computer! If you haven't voted yet, please do.

It's great to see some new names as well as familiar ones among the entrants. Thanks to everyone who submitted something—it was a much more challenging pic to icon than I'd hoped, but there are some imaginative icons here.

The subject of this challenge is the humble bicycle. You may obtain your bicycle images from wherever you like—I'm including three under the cut to get you started—and this week, you may enter up to FOUR icons.

Comment to this post with your icon(s) and their url(s). Please don't use these icons before the voting is completed. All submissions should, of course, fit the 100 x 100, 40K guidelines for LJ/DW icons. And don't forget that if you are the winner, you'll need to post a tutorial on how you created the icon, so keep notes!

I will close entries and post the voting next Sunday (14th August). Please consider that Saturday 13th, midnight your time, is the deadline for entries (though you can get away with later as long as your comment is here when I get to my computer on Sunday).

Meanwhile you still have today to get your entries in for Challenge #114.

Hi all - a quick reminder that Challenge #114 awaits your entries. I'm hoping to give you eight days to create your icons, so voting will be posted on Sunday morning and will be open until Friday, so do please get your entries in.

Sor far, just two entries.

Hi, everyone! After a suitable hiatus I'm hoping you'll be interested in picking up this challenge again. For anyone who's new here - welcome!

Probably the hardest thing about running an icon challenge is finding suitable images for the challenges. I'm going to be asking you guys for some help with that, when I figure out what it is I want to ask for - also, I'm thinking it could be interesting to do a post-challenge comments post to find out what you liked/didn't like/found difficult about each one.

Meanwhile, here's Challenge #114:

James Franco )

There'll be a bit of a change to the voting, in that I shall post the voting eight days from today, and the results will go up the following weekend—you will have until Thursday to vote, then we can perhaps have a conversation about the challenge before the winners are announced. Let's see how that goes.

For the moment, I will post a fresh challenge next Saturday, but if weekly challenges are too much I will cut back to fortnightly. Have fun!

Would anyone be interested in participating if I revive this community?

If so, are there any changes to the way things are done that you would like to see? I'm thinking particularly about the participation schedule, but is there anything else?

As a reminder:

- challenges are posted weekly, and consist (in standard form, there are sometimes variations) of a single picture to be made into one or two icons only. Posting of challenges is on Saturday morning (my time) and voting is Sunday-Monday.

- subjects will vary from celebrities to snails to scenic views, etc, anything I can think of. Any suggestions as to where I can obtain more and more varied source material would be very welcome.

- voting is done in comments, in order of preference. First round of voting - all votes are equal. If there is a tie, order of preference is used to determine order of banners. I try to avoid ties if possible.

Okay, everyone, as you've probably realised, time's up on this challenge comunity. It's had its day, so I'm not going to struggle on begging for entries, etc.

Thank you, everyone who participated, whether as contestant or voter. I hope you enjoyed it and that you learned something, too.

Have fun!

ETA: if you really don't want to see this comm disappear, tell me. There may also be useful discussion in the LJ community, here.

Challenge #113 (Clive Owen) entries are due in by end of tomorrow.

At present there are no entries.

If there are entries for #113, I'll be posting Challenge #114 rather late as I'm out all day tomorrow. If not, I'll call it a day.

Hi all - no entries for Challenge 112, so no voting this week. I think we're better off just cancelling challenges that don't work rather than hanging on for another week, so I'm going to hope for a bumper crop of entries for Challenge #113 instead.

Hmm. It looks as though Challenge #112 has inspired nobody... unless we get a cheering bunch of entries today?

Anyway. On to Challenge #113: )

Hi all, and thank you for voting for this icon. It was made in Photoshop CS5 on a Mac, and uses Gradient Map, Levels and Colour Fill, so all quite translatable, I'm sure.
